It was a beautiful sunny day here today. A little bit warmer again this morning at 6 degrees and I think Melbourne reached 15. After a load of washing and a quick bit of "housework", we drove to Healesville and Marysville. This is some of the scenery on the way.
We went to the Healesville Sanctuary where we came across some creepy crawley, bitey and flying critters.
This is a Wedged Tail Eagle-
A lyre bird - it mimmicks a variety of bird calls and does a good imitation of a kookaburra.
This is a red tailed black cockatoo. I was taking photos of it and it landed on my iPad, then it latched onto my finger, and drew blood, boy did it hurt.
Here, below, Peter is being brave with the carpet snake which is wrapped around a girls waist. It weighed over 7 kg and almost 3 meters long.
And of course - the Coat of Arms
From Healesville we travelled to Marysville -about a 40 minute drive. Marysville and surrounding areas were devastated by fire in 2009.
We were here in 2010 and there were very few buildings. Most buildings in the town were burnt to the ground. Today they are still rebuilding and it is looking great. One of the few buildings that was left standing after the fires was this bakery.
These are some of the new buildings. The information centre-
Post office-
Police station -
This car obviously is owned by a local, keen to rebuild Marysville.
Then we headed back to Coburg, and this was today's sunset.
We only have 2 more days in Melbourne before heading north again. Rain has been forecast for the next few days, but on the positive side the temperatures should be a bit higher. Even though the temperatures have been low, we haven't had the terrible winds to make it unbearable.
Till next time,
Cheerio and love from
Lesley and Peter.
