We have now arrived in Adelaide, after leaving Port Pirie this morning. We went to some farmers markets before we left, wasn't much there, but Peter found some nice home made biscuits. I haven't done much cooking like that since we have been away(I am on holidays!).
The scenery hasn't changed much in all of the Eyre Peninsula - wheat and sheep country and very dry. As we got closer to Adelaide there was more olive trees, grapes, cabbage and onions growing, and a huge number of green houses but not sure what was growing in them.
Also in this area are a number of wind farms which you can see on the horizon, the foreground shows the wheat farms after being harvested.
About half way between Port Pirie and Adelaide is a small settlement of Lochiel, which mainly exists as a base for employees at the local saltworks on Bumbunga Lakes. In warm weather the lake can turn a vivid pink as the microscopic algae in the water produce a reddish pigment. We could see some slight pinkish colour in some areas.
This is near the lake - I just thought the tree would make a good photo.
We stopped at the lookout to take a photo of the lakes and while we were there, an excavator arrived and started digging into the pile of salt.
Most caravan parks we have gone to have not been very busy. Many of them have told us to pick whichever site we want. We arrived here in Adelaide to the caravan park we thought we would stay at to be told there were no vacancies. We were very surprised, but I guess that's the difference between country and city.
When we have to back the van into a tight spot, I prefer for Peter to direct and I drive as Peter can direct better than I can. When we arrived today and I got in the drivers seat, males came from everywhere as they thought they would need to help, but were surprised how well we did. I watch too many men driving and the women directing and most women don't do a very good job so I prefer to do it this way.
Everyone here at the park are very friendly, including the ducks!
Our mileage so far is around 5,000 kms.
