Goondiwindi

Hello

We left for Goondiwindi on Wednesday morning to join the Adria caravan club rally. We don't see many Adria vans so to see 17 together is very unusual. There is also another one here but they aren't here as part of the club.
We arrived about 4pm just in time for happy hour - well timed!!!

Thursday we went into town to the Victory Hotel for a tour of the hotel and lunch.

It is a very old hotel and was closed down a few years ago and was to be demolished, because of its bad condition. It was purchased and restored and is now a very successful business. There are still parts being restored. They have gone to a lot of trouble to bring it back to original condition, even to the paint colours and carpet. They made new carpet using the original design and colours as shown below

They provided a tasty lunch, then gave us the history of Gunsynd, the iconic and famous race horse.

We had a relaxing afternoon before happy hour, where we gathered around a lovely warm fire. It has been a bit cooler here, as I think it has been most places.

Friday, we went on a tour of Goondiwindi and in particular, a cotton farm. That was very interesting. This irrigation system is 1 km long and moves along the rows. This is actually wheat being irrigated which is also grown on the farm. The cotton farms are ready for planting and will be done in September and October.

From the farm we were then taken to the shop where they sell their clothing. Of course I couldn't leave without buying something - have to support the local community.

Goondiwindi is on the border of Qld and NSW and this is the bridge across the McIntrye river, connecting the 2 states.

That's all for today,
Cheerio and love from
Lesley and Peter.
